Yellow Casserole Dish

The first drawing took me about one hour and half and I thought it would be an easy drawing. I had a most hard time trying to figure out the top angle of the dish. As you can see in the first drawing, I couldn't figure out the pointed angle of the top. I thought shading would create the look, but no matter how much I worked on the shading, the top remained flat. Finally I studied the photograph of the dish. I realized that when working from the photo it is much easier to decipher the outline of the object, than working from the live object in front of me. In the photograph I can clearly make out the outline of the top. Second drawing is a quick sketch done after studying the photograph.

Water Bottle

This cute little water bottle keeps me hydrated when I am out. I love the illustration on the bottle. I am still struggling with the perspective but getting better I think.

Cork Ceramic Tea Pot

I love this whimsical Cork ceramic tea pot. I have it displayed on my shelf along with its Cork creamer. You can make out a faint drawing of the cork creamer next to the tea pot in the drawing. I was planning on drawing both, but this tea pot took much more time than I expected. I thought it would be an easy drawing but it turned out to be challenging. I am having a difficult time getting the perspective and the curves of the pot to look natural.

French Press

I am not a coffee drinker but this is an essential tool for my morning caffeine fix. I use the french press to press green tea leaves for my morning cup of tea. I wasn't sure if I can draw this at this stage but I thought I'd give it a try. The connections between already intricate mechanics were an unexpected challenge. I struggled through the process trying to get the proportions and the details right. It's still not right, but I have learned a lot in the process. First of all this drawing made me really look at the object and study every detail. I also learned it's easier to start with a loose sketch and move into the details. I had many re-dos to get the proportions improved and they still need work. This drawing is far from perfect, but I still consider the two and half hours spent on this drawing fruitful.

Yellow Bird Candle Holders

These are my yellow candle holders that reside on my dining table. I love using these candle holders to light up the party. I was a little nervous to draw them, feeling insecure about my skills. I started with broad light outlines and then filled in the details. The second bird (bird in the front) was much easier to draw with the practice from the first one. I added a darker outline to the second bird, and it really gave it structure and form.

Salt and Pepper Shakers

I have always wanted to learn how to draw. This blog provides a place and incentive for daily practice, sharing and feedback.

These are my salt and pepper shakers that keep us company on the dining table. I love the patterns and lively colors. As you can I see I have a lot to learn, but I am enthusiastic. So here it is, my first entry.
